Dr. Seuss is a genius. The Lorax is one of the most memorable books I read as a youngster, and it is as entertaining and relevant today.
He has to be one of the greatest writers for children, having created characters like the Cat in the Hat and the Grinch, and creatures like Whos and, of course, the Lorax. He is equally creative with words, and gets away with inventing them as he pleases to make rhymes work (and he’s one of the few who can). Rhyming poetry might have fallen out of fashion in the literary world, but it works brilliantly in children’s books. And I still love it!
To celebrate his birthday, I thought I’d make my Quote of the Week a Dr. Seuss one, and took a line from Oh, the Places You’ll Go, a brilliant book that actually really resonated with me as a recent graduate…
Unfortunately I couldn’t come up with a design with half his creativity, but the quote is great on its own!
I’d really recommend The Lorax and Oh, the Places You’ll Go if you haven’t read them before. What were your favourite children’s books?
