I am shattered. The book fairs are always tiring, but Frankfurt more than any. The fair is five days long, and five long days. It is approximately twice as long as it needs to be. I missed one of the days of the fair itself, so it wasn’t even as bad as it could have been, but was there to help set up.
Even thinking about describing the experience is making me tired, so to summarise: from 4.15 a.m. last Tuesday until half ten on Saturday night, I had approximately two hours to myself. Any introvert will tell you this is not enough. Hell, for any extrovert this probably isn’t enough.
I have been desperate for my day off, and considered taking today, but thought I would opt for Monday as I finish at four on Fridays. Well, I finish at four most Fridays – today was only about the third time I’ve had to stay until half past, thanks to a delivery from the blooming book fair!
Now I am finally home, and I’m switching off for the evening. I stopped by the supermarket on the way home and, to celebrate my long weekend, I bought chocolate, Prosecco, a baguette – all the indulgences. There is leftover lasagne in the microwave and I’m ready to have the whole evening to myself watching Netflix and stuffing my face.
This weekend, I hope you also get the chance to indulge yourself. Even if you’re working or a parent or just have a busy one ahead, I think a little me-time does the world of good. Even if you can only spare half an hour, whether it’s having a nice bath, reading a book, going for a run or eating your favourite foods, you deserve to do something that’s just for you.
Have a great weekend!
