Copper Blossom, Edinburgh

Just off George Street in Edinburgh is one of my new favourite bar/restaurants, Copper Blossom.

Outside Copper Blossom

There are a few tables on street level for a drink in nice weather, but the restaurant itself is at basement level. I was pleased to see that it’s fully accessible though, with a lift for wheelchair users to reach restaurant level, which you don’t often find in Edinburgh’s old and hilly streets.

It’s pretty outside, with lamps and greenery, and equally lovely inside. The sun streams through the window on to three high tables and the gorgeous chairs pictured below. (I loved the walls too.) I never normally choose high chairs as I think I’m going to fall off them, but these were really comfy and it was nice to sit in the sunshine. If I ever have my own kitchen, I would decorate it like this! They also have a dining area and a section with comfy sofas and chairs.

They have a good cocktail menu with all the classics and a couple of unusual ones like ‘Scottish Summer Time’. I believe (i.e. might have forgotten, but think) we ordered a ‘Tropical Smash’ (Koko Kanu, orange liqueur, mango, grapefruit, lime and lemonade) and a Rossini.

The food menu has a selection of mains including sandwiches, burgers and salads, as well as small plates like hummus and pitta bread, halloumi chips or calamari.

I got a cheeseburger, and the chips were so good that I still finished this giant plate of food. My friend ordered the vegetable masala, which comes with rice, a poppadom, pineapple chutney and raita.

And despite the size of the main course, I couldn’t resist a dessert! I think this must have been taken off the menu now, as I am sure it was a mud pie, but there is now a chocolate and orange tart that I will be trying the next time I go!

As well as the lovely décor, food and drinks, I have to give a special mention to the staff, as our waitress was excellent (unfortunately I can’t remember her name). I tend to think most places have good service, but this was definitely first class.

It’s always nice to find another place for catching up in Edinburgh, and Copper Blossom is the perfect place for a drink with friends. I am sure to be back there the next time I’m home!
